The engraved presentation inscription records that the tray was presented on 8 April 1884 to Edward John Thompson, representative of the parish of St. James and St. John, Clerkenwell, on the Metropolitan Board of Works, in recognition of his retirement. Established in 1855, the Metropolitan Board of Works was the first metropolitan governing authority for London, responsible for major public works including the sewer system designed by Joseph Bazalgette, the Thames Embankment, and numerous urban improvement projects."

Il trofeo fu donato nel 1937 dal Brigadier General Arthur Charles Lewin, colonnello onorario del Kenya Regiment, quale premio destinato alla migliore compagnia del reggimento. Il Kenya Regiment, costituito nel 1937 quale forza territoriale della colonia britannica del Kenya, era composto prevalentemente da coloni europei e svolgeva funzioni di difesa locale e addestramento. Le iscrizioni dei vincitori, datate dal 1951 al 1962, testimoniano l'impiego continuativo del trofeo durante il secondo dopoguerra, negli anni che precedettero l'indipendenza del Kenya (1963), rappresentando una significativa testimonianza della tradizione militare britannica in Africa orientale

The trophy was presented in 1937 by Brigadier General Arthur Charles Lewin, Honorary Colonel of the Kenya Regiment, as a prize to be awarded to the regiment's best company. The Kenya Regiment, established in 1937 as the territorial force of the British Colony of Kenya, was composed predominantly of European settlers and served in local defence and military training. The engraved names of the winners, dated from 1951 to 1962, testify to the trophy's continued use during the post-war period, in the years preceding Kenya's independence in 1963, making it a significant testament to the British military tradition in East Africa.
