Negli anni '20 l'Associazione Studenti Universitari Pavesi (ASUP) era estremamente attiva. Proprio nel febbraio del 1927 pubblicava il celebre numero unico goliardico "Mola la pila" in occasione della Festa delle Matricole. Spesso l'associazione organizzava gare sportive intercollegiali o tornei cittadini.

Il riferimento alla famiglia Castiglioni è di grande interesse in quanto storicamente legatissima a Pavia per via del celebre Collegio Castiglioni che proprio in quegli anni stava vivendo una fase di transizione cruciale: non funzionava ancora come un collegio universitario attivo, bensì come una prestigiosa residenza privata di famiglia. La gloriosa istituzione originaria del 1429, fondata dal cardinale Branda Castiglioni, era stata infatti chiusa nel 1803 dalle riforme napoleoniche. Nei primi decenni del Novecento, l'edificio visse gli ultimi anni sotto la proprietà della storica famiglia degli scienziati Brugnatelli, prima di tornare per sempre all'Università di Pavia.

In the 1920s the Associazione Studenti Universitari Pavesi (ASUP) was highly active. In February 1927 it published the celebrated single goliardic issue “Mola la pila” for the Festa delle Matricole. The association frequently organised intercollegiate sporting competitions and local tournaments.

The reference to the Castiglioni family is of particular interest, as the family was historically closely linked to Pavia through the renowned Collegio Castiglioni, which during those years was undergoing a crucial transitional phase: it was not yet operating as an active university college, but rather as a prestigious private family residence. The original institution, founded in 1429 by Cardinal Branda Castiglioni, had been closed in 1803 following the Napoleonic reforms. In the early decades of the 20th century, the building spent its final years under the ownership of the historic Brugnatelli family of scientists before eventually returning permanently to the University of Pavia.

La coppa fu assegnata quale premio dalla Ballaugh Fur, Feather & Produce Society, associazione dell'Isola di Man dedicata all'allevamento amatoriale e alle esposizioni di avicoli, piccoli animali e prodotti agricoli locali. Il trofeo era destinato al miglior esemplare di Wyandotte, una delle razze avicole più apprezzate nelle esposizioni britanniche del XX secolo. L'incisione cita l'Onchan Show, manifestazione organizzata nel villaggio di Onchan, anch'essa sull'Isola di Man, dove le società "Fur, Feather & Produce" premiavano le migliori razze avicole secondo gli standard espositivi dell'epoca.

The cup was awarded as a prize by the Ballaugh Fur, Feather & Produce Society, an Isle of Man association dedicated to amateur breeding and exhibitions of poultry, small animals and local agricultural produce. The trophy was intended for the best Wyandotte specimen, one of the most highly regarded poultry breeds in British exhibitions during the 20th century. The engraving refers to the Onchan Show, an event organised in the village of Onchan, also on the Isle of Man, where “Fur, Feather & Produce” societies awarded prizes for the finest poultry breeds according to the exhibition standards of the period.
