Il trofeo fu assegnato nell'ambito del prestigioso News of the World Individual Darts Championship, la più importante competizione britannica di freccette dell'epoca, sponsorizzata dall'omonimo quotidiano. Dopo la sospensione durante la Seconda guerra mondiale, il torneo riprese come campionato nazionale e nel 1950 riunì i vincitori delle qualificazioni regionali di Inghilterra e Galles, confermandosi il principale titolo del panorama dartistico britannico.

The trophy was awarded as part of the prestigious News of the World Individual Darts Championship, the most important British darts competition of the period, sponsored by the eponymous newspaper. After being suspended during the Second World War, the tournament resumed as a national championship and, in 1950, brought together the winners of the regional qualifiers from England and Wales, confirming its status as the leading title in British darts.
