Coppa biansata in argento su probabile disegno di August-Adolphe Willms (1827-1899). Coperchio con presa in forma della dea Atena con elmo e scudo a tuttotondo, fascia decorata da volti di Zeus entro elementi vegetali e anse ad ancore con cime intrecciate. Fusto a delfini attorcigliati a tuttotondo, decorato da onde stilizzate, stelle marine e spighe, base circolare sbalzata a conchiglie e coralli. Birmingham, 1871. L'imponente composizione e il ricco repertorio iconografico di gusto neo-greco e marino consentono di attribuire il disegno ad Auguste-Adolphe Willms (1827-1899), tra i principali designer della manifattura Elkington & Co., presso la quale operò come direttore artistico a partire dal 1859. Formatosi in Francia e autore di alcuni dei più importanti modelli presentati da Elkington alle Esposizioni Universali della seconda metà dell'Ottocento, Willms introdusse un linguaggio monumentale ispirato all'antichità classica, caratterizzato dall'impiego di figure allegoriche, sostegni zoomorfi e complessi programmi decorativi

The imposing composition and the rich iconographic repertoire of Neo-Greek and maritime inspiration allow the design to be attributed to Auguste-Adolphe Willms (1827–1899), one of the principal designers of the Elkington & Co. manufactory, where he served as artistic director from 1859. Trained in France and the creator of some of the most important models presented by Elkington at the Universal Exhibitions of the second half of the nineteenth century, Willms introduced a monumental language inspired by classical antiquity, characterised by the use of allegorical figures, zoomorphic supports and complex decorative schemes.
