La coppa fu assegnata in occasione della Southport 100 Mile Car Race, prestigiosa competizione automobilistica disputata il 13 agosto 1932 sul circuito ricavato sulle sabbie di Birkdale Beach, organizzata dal Southport Motor Racing Club. Offerta dal quotidiano Daily Dispatch come 100 Guinea Cup, premiava la prima vettura classificata assoluta indipendentemente dalla categoria. La gara fu vinta da John Hastings "Jack" Bartlett, al volante della sua Salmson sovralimentata da 1087 cc, che conquistò definitivamente il trofeo ("won outright"), confermandosi tra i protagonisti delle corse su sabbia britanniche degli anni Trenta

The trophy was awarded for the Southport 100 Mile Car Race, one of the most prestigious British motor racing events of the interwar period, held on 13 August 1932 on the beach circuit laid out across the sands of Birkdale Beach and organized by the Southport Motor Racing Club. Presented by the Daily Dispatch newspaper as the 100 Guinea Cup, it was awarded to the overall winner of the race, irrespective of class.
The event was won by John Hastings "Jack" Bartlett, driving his supercharged 1,087 cc Salmson, who claimed the trophy outright. Bartlett was among the leading exponents of British beach racing during the 1930s, and his victory at Southport further consolidated his reputation in this distinctive and highly competitive branch of motor sport.
