Il dipinto denota gli stilemi tipici della scuola napoletana della prima metà del Seicento e dell'influsso di Ribera su di essa. In particolare il Gesù Bambino, in controparte, è presente nel dipinto di Giovanni Ricca pubblicato in G. Porzio, La scuola di Ribera, pag. 191 foto 155. Lo stesso Gesù Bambino è presente nella medesima pubblicazione a pag. 88 foto 51, in un dipinto attribuito a Bartolomeo Passante (?) (Cerchia del Maestro dei Pastori - Maestro di Bovino). Questa coincidenza fa presupporre che questi artisti attingessero a un disegno circolante nella bottega e/o nella cerchia di Ribera.

The painting displays the typical stylistic features of the Neapolitan school of the first half of the 17th century and the influence of Ribera upon it. In particular, the Infant Jesus, in the background, appears in the painting by Giovanni Ricca published in G. Porzio, La scuola di Ribera, p. 191, photo 155. The same Infant Jesus appears in the same publication on p. 88, photo 51, in a painting attributed to Bartolomeo Passante (?) (Circle of the Master of the Shepherds - Master of Bovino). This coincidence suggests that these artists drew upon a design circulating within Ribera’s workshop and/or circle.
