L'opera si ispira in modo evidente al dipinto di Giambattista Pittoni conservato nel Castello di Charlottenburg nei pressi di Berlino.

Franz Anton Maulbertsch assieme a Paul Troger, Anton Kern e Josef Ignaz Mildorfer, fu tra i maestri tedeschi più sensibili ai modi veneziani dei pittori quali Piazzetta, Federico Bencovich e Giambattista Pittoni. Mentre la lezione di Pittoni fu divulgata da Paul Troger e Anton Kern, entrambi presenti nella sua bottega in età giovanile, Bencovich operò direttamente e per più anni in ambito asburgico. Inoltre, per considerare l'esatto apporto dei maestri veneziani in Austria, vanno ricordati gli affreschi di Sebastiano Ricci nel Palazzo di Schönbrunn di Vienna e Giambattista Tiepolo, attivo a Würzburg a partire dal 1750.

The present work clearly draws inspiration from the painting by Giambattista Pittoni housed at Charlottenburg Palace near Berlin.

Franz Anton Maulbertsch, together with Paul Troger, Anton Kern, and Josef Ignaz Mildorfer, was among the German-speaking masters most receptive to the Venetian idioms of painters such as Piazzetta, Federico Bencovich, and Giambattista Pittoni. While Pittoni’s influence was disseminated through Paul Troger and Anton Kern, both of whom trained in his workshop during their youth, Bencovich worked directly for several years within the Habsburg sphere. Furthermore, in considering the precise contribution of Venetian masters in Austria, one should also recall the frescoes by Sebastiano Ricci at Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, and Giambattista Tiepolo, active in Würzburg from 1750 onwards.
