Importante cornice del XIX secolo, di legno ebanizzato e decori finemente scolpiti a ramage e ovuli dorati a foglia d'oro.
L'opera presenta un monogramma apocrifo, PBF. in basso a destra.
L'opera ricalca il soggetto del gatto che si avventa sulla selvaggina, caro al pittore e presente in molte sue opere, come nel dipinto Cat Protecting Spoil from a Dog in a Park Landscape, firmato e datato 1717, conservato presso lo Speed Art Museum, negli USA. Altre opere simili sono transitate sul mercato: Hühner in einem Korb angreifende Katze mit einem Rechen und einem Messer asta del 09/06/2021 di Dorotheum; A Cat Protecting Game from a Dog in a Landscape asta del 31/10/2013 di Christie's.

Dirk, conosciuto anche come Theodor, fu allievo di Michiel van Musscher, Herman van Vollenhove e Jan Weenix. Nel 1698, fu a Vienna al servizio del principe del Liechtenstein. Nel biennio 1706-1707 fece un curioso viaggio su commissione in Suriname, per disegnare piante e uccelli esotici di quel lontano paese.

Important 19th-century frame, made of ebonised wood and finely carved decorations with foliage and golden ovules gilded with gold leaf.
The work bears an apocryphal monogram, PBF, in the lower right corner.
The work follows the theme of a cat pouncing on a game, a subject dear to the painter and present in many of his works, such as in the painting Cat Protecting Spoil from a Dog in a Park Landscape, signed and dated 1717, preserved at the Speed Art Museum in the USA.
