The subject depicting Saint Micheal defeating the Devil has been painted by many artists, among which: Delacroix (1854-61), Guido Reni (1636) and Luca Giordano in "The Fallen of the Rebel angels” datable 1660-1665 and again "Saint Micheal" by the same artist, datable 1663; while the face of the archangel and the position of the demon in this very miniature are close to "The fall of Satana", a print by James Barry dated 1777, now at the British Museum Acc. No. 1849,1031.228. Provenance: Private collection Tuscany, Italy. Acquired on the British Market in the '80s.
