The common starting shape is the sphere, elongated or squashed flat. The tallest vase, Linae Large, has horizontal incisions creating a pleated effect — a concertina — as if the object could ideally stretch or tighten at will. The medium size, Linae Medium, experiences the effect of gravity more strongly, and is characterized by 7 vertical ribs made by scooping out the glass. The small vase, Linae Small, mix of the two other vases, is similar in shape to the middle-sized one and also feels the force of gravity. Georges Mohasseb / Studio Manda, Inspired by the city nightscape, Urban is a table lamp, built from a combination of industrial materials as a tribute to what defines the cities we live in. The base is a brute concrete square cast topped with hand-placed staples sculpted and con- nected together to create the Urban form. Urban sits beautifully as a brutalist artis- tic statement piece. When the light is on, it passes through the negative spaces between the overlapped and staked metal cartridges, recreating the city nightscape. Arezzi Giuseppe, The collaboration between It's Great Design and the designer Giuseppe Arezzi gives life to the new Manico armchair. Manico was born from a research project linked to the vernacular tradition and became an ergo- nomic product stripped of the superfluous. “I decided to tell the story of the transition from traditional agriculture to contemporary agriculture, which makes use of increas- ingly sophisticated agricultural machinery. The Manico armchair, built with the handles of those tools that are no longer used, is now the new chair of the farmer who’s cool- ing off, under an olive tree, looking out at the machines that work for him: a ode to the more authentic and simple Sicilian culture”. The new Manico armchair is a brightly colored indoor seat that interprets the simplicity of rural life. Razumovskaya Irina, Irina Razumovskaya creates visions of ageing of the architecture, where every peeling layer of surface gives a context to a history and time. To do this, she chooses the material and organic language of ceramics. She uses laconic forms and lets the very nature of clay create its own narrative and identity. The artist's latest works, including "Melt", were inspired by a wistful longing for the post-soviet times. The subtle dilapidation of stark, una- dorned constructivist forms, which over time have become eased and animated by their peel- ing layers that resemble tree bark. Destrumelle Johan, Young French designer Johan Destrumelle creates objects «like a pastry cook», layering up dots of concrete by hand to form objects that attempt to translate the painting techniques of Pointillism into three-dimensional volumes. All his objects are unique and handmade, a particular care is brought to the quality and less to the quantity of his productions. Using pale pink-and blue-dyed concrete, the Neon lamp was born from the nocturnal lu- minous atmosphere of Japanese cities. Nagel Johannes, Deliberately questioning the widely accepted status of pottery as a functional, domestic and decorative craft, Nagel turns to clay as the privileged arena for his formal and conceptual explorations, rehearsing, through an eclectic array of vessels, the timeless debate of form vs. function, control vs. spontaneity, rigour vs. improvisation. "Untitled" results from a process called sand-casting: the artist creates caves from sand monoliths by digging freehand in a process that recalls archaeology. In these empty spaces, he pours fine porcelain, which is imprinted with sand and the traces of the manual work. Once the residual sand has been extracted, the artwork comes out of its "sarcophagus" to be glazed and fired. The artwork surface is not perfect; it shows the working process. Van Bleiswijk Joost, The Little lamp arisen from blowtorch-burned pieces of flat metal, the objects are the improvised outcome of spontaneous making. Without moulds, detailed drawings or defined ideas, Joost and his team improvise with great speed and action. By cutting thick steel plates roughly with a torch, welding them together, and hand paint in black and white, the Little lamp become a strong character. Bey Jurgen, The pixelated chairs are con- structed out of short white- wood slats of 44 x 18 mm. The whitewood slats are cut in pieces and stapled back together in the shape of clas- sical armchairs. The seating is assembled by blocks of felt fitted with a sewed it wood nerves and filled with wool. The pixelated side table has been made accordingly. They look like an enlarged low resolution picture of a clas- sical sitting area, that gives a blocked, pixelated image. Upelj Kaja, Kaja Upelj is constantly searching for ways to alter the perception of glass as being sturdy and cold, to capture and convey the material in its most fundamental fluidity. Chekerdjian Karen, TOTEM is not a work of design but rather a search for balance between solid and void, between heavy and light. Intuition led desire, from which emerged an idea. The idea evaporated and the object remained. Even though the spirit transcends, the TOTEM continues to be essen- tial. Three elementary geometric forms are stacked one on top of the other in different sequences, like building blocks. The practice in play revisits the simplicity of gesture towards a spiritual har- mony between functionality and purposelessness, between form and formlessness.
