The sporting competitions of the British Forces in Egypt were a central element of military life for the British contingent stationed in Egypt. Boxing, in particular, was among the most prestigious disciplines and was practiced both at regimental level and within inter-service championships, contributing to physical training and esprit de corps. At the end of the 1920s, approximately 9,600 British military personnel were stationed in Egypt, distributed among Cairo, Ismailia, Alexandria and Port Said, and sporting competitions were regularly organized under the supervision of the military authorities.
