Le Winchester Races, disputate sullo storico ippodromo di Worthy Down, nell'Hampshire, figurano tra i più antichi e prestigiosi meeting ippici dell'Inghilterra meridionale. Documentate già dal XVII secolo, costituivano uno degli appuntamenti più attesi del calendario sportivo e mondano britannico, richiamando aristocratici, grandi proprietari di purosangue, ufficiali dell'esercito e membri della famiglia reale. Le giornate di corse erano accompagnate da ricevimenti, balli e occasioni di rappresentanza che trasformavano Winchester nel centro della vita sociale della contea.
La presente coppa ricorda la vittoria del purosangue Snowbird nelle Winchester Races del 1819.

The Winchester Races, held at the historic Worthy Down racecourse in Hampshire, rank among the oldest and most prestigious racing meetings in southern England. Documented as early as the seventeenth century, they represented one of the most anticipated events in the British sporting and social calendar, attracting aristocrats, leading thoroughbred owners, army officers and members of the Royal Family. The race days were accompanied by receptions, balls and ceremonial occasions that transformed Winchester into the centre of the county's social life.
The present cup commemorates the victory of the thoroughbred Snowbird at the Winchester Races of 1819.
