La South Western Counties Football Association, costituita nei primi anni Novanta dell'Ottocento, organizzava una delle principali competizioni regionali della Scozia sud-occidentale, riservata ai club delle contee storiche di Dumfriesshire, Kirkcudbrightshire e Wigtownshire. Il torneo nacque nel 1891 per sostituire la precedente Churchill Cup, divenendo rapidamente il più prestigioso campionato a eliminazione diretta dell'area e contribuendo allo sviluppo del calcio organizzato scozzese in una fase cruciale della sua diffusione. Il presente trofeo, realizzato nel 1894, appartiene ai primi anni di vita della competizione e rappresenta una rara testimonianza materiale del football scozzese di fine XIX secolo

The South Western Counties Football Association, established in the early 1890s, organised one of the principal regional competitions in south-western Scotland, reserved for clubs from the historic counties of Dumfriesshire, Kirkcudbrightshire and Wigtownshire. The tournament was founded in 1891 to replace the earlier Churchill Cup, rapidly becoming the most prestigious knockout competition in the area and contributing to the development of organised Scottish football during a crucial phase in its expansion. The present trophy, made in 1894, belongs to the early years of the competition and represents a rare material testimony to Scottish football at the end of the nineteenth century.
