These maps are attributed to one of the most important French geographers, cartographers and publishers of the 17th century, celebrated for the extraordinary decorative richness and technical precision of his works produced in the service of King Louis XIV. His monumental work, Atlas Nouveau contenant toutes les parties du monde (published from 1674 onwards), became a reference point for European cartography of the period. Thanks to the quality of his publications, he was awarded the prestigious official title of Géographe Ordinaire du Roy (Ordinary Geographer to the King)
