L'opera è corredata dal parere scritto di Ferdiinando Arisi: 'Questo bozzetto per un lunettone con "Angeli che esaltano gli strumenti della Passione di Gesù" , proiettati contro un cielo mosso da nubi che invadono anche la parete sottostante, è stato dipinto da Carlo Innocenzo Carloni. Dal punto di vista della tecnica si conoscono altri bozzetti per affreschi organizzati come questo, per esempio quello venduto da Sotheby's a New York il 3 giugno 1988; ma il confronto può essere esteso ad opere similari eseguite per pale d'altare ( " Gloria di di Sant'Antonio Abate" al Metropolitan Museum di New York, "Gloria di San Giovanni Nepomuceno" al Museum of Art di Providence, "Gloria di Bartolomeo Colleoni" Poldi Pezzoli, Milano). Verrebbe da pensare a un bozzetto per la decorazione della Chiesa di San Fedele a Como, una delle prime imprese eseguite in Italia dopo la feconda attività in Austria, sia perché il tema di sviluppo era la Passione di Gesù, sia perché il bozzetto del "Gesù nel Getsemani" realizzato sulla pala ancora in San Fedele presenta le stesse caratteristiche.
