A Sikes hydrometer set manufactured by J. Lizars in Aberdeen, in its original mahogany case in excellent condition.
Used to determine the strength of spirits for the distiller and wine maker, this type of hydrometer, very efficient and easy to use was designed by Bartholomew Sikes in 1816 and until 1980 was the standard used in the UK to measure the alcohol proof of spirit.

The first dial barometers also referred to banjo or wheel barometers, were first made in England around 1790 and soon became the style of choice. This piece is signed L. Bellatti Lincoln.
