Collection of Savonarola’s works, originally appeared in Venice in 1498. Michele Savonarola was the grandfather of Girolamo Savonarola (1452-1498) and a renowned physician; he was born in Padua and, after having practiced as a physician in Bassano for many years, moved to Ferrara where he was appointed court physician to Niccolò III d’Este, as well as a professor of medicine at the recently founded university. “Savonarola has been defined “the most important figure of practical medicine of the fifteenth century” because with his works he marked the beginning “of a healthy reaction against medical school” ... He was a very prolific writer and perfectly possessed the art to write in a simple, understandable way, even on complicated subjects.

Delightful and uncommon edition of Dante’s Divina Commedia, printed in Lyon in small size by Guillaume Rouillé (1518-1589), a former pupil of Gabriel Giolito de' Ferrari. One of the most prominent humanist bookseller-printers in 16th-century Lyon, he established his business in this city in 1545. Rouillé invented the pocket book format called the sextodecimo.
