Lotto 303 Iranian Amlash Culture Big Spouted Jar, 9th - 8th century BC; height cm 33; diam. cm 9; Resembling a graceful abstract bird, with the spout representing a long beak and curving neck, this vessel was probably used for ritually pouring liquids during religious ceremonies, in particular in burial rites. Provenance: English private collection, purchased in Tehran from Monouchehr Soleiman Aaron in the 1970s, accompanied by a Polaroid with the word "from Amlash".
